Made in Brazil: Stevanato Group inaugurates its “state-of-the- art” factory
for pharmaceutical glass containers in Sete Lagoas

The company will serve the growing domestic and South American pharmaceutical industry with high quality glass ampoules, cartridges and vials

Stevanato Group, the global producer of systems, process and services for the pharmaceutical industry, inaugurates today at the presence of local authorities and customers, its newest factory in Sete Lagoas (Minas Gerais, Brazil). The plant, which is the result of a 30 million euro investment, carries the Ompi brand and expands the Group’s production capacity initially in terms of glass cartridges and ampoules to respond to the growing demand of the domestic and South American markets. Local production of vials is expected to start subsequently from 2018.

With the construction started in February 2016 and completed in a record time, the new Ompi factory has already started its production in June this year. The built up area covers a surface of 12.000 square meters over a 40.000 square meters land area in order to allow for future expansion of production capacity. It is the “state-of-the-art” for primary pharmaceutical glass containers production, with latest generation of glass forming lines, efficient production and “clean room” layouts and optimized infrastructure. The production unit already employs 120 people and will reach a 200 people workforce at the end of 2018.

“Brazil is expected to become the world’s fifth largest pharmaceutical market in 20191 and we believe it will keep growing at two-digit rate in the foreseeing future”, says Marco Stevanato, Stevanato Group’s vice-president. The new Brazilian factory is the latest investment in the framework of the Group’s global expansion plan in glass containers production. It is adding up to the Ompi manufacturing sites in Italy and Slovakia and to the green fields in China and Mexico built in the last 10 years. “Our philosophy is to offer the same quality and service level to our pharmaceutical clients worldwide”, explains Marco Stevanato.

Stevanato Group has consistently increased its revenues, reaching 458,7 million euro in 2016, with a 32,3% increase over 2015. Based at Piombino Dese (Padova), the Group masters the verticalized glass forming technology, including visual inspection systems, assembling lines, packaging and serialization machines for the pharmaceutical industry. It also produces specialty plastics for medical devices.
